As digital platforms become an increasingly important part of business operations, information security has become a factor that needs attention from the very start of building and operating a system. Risks such as DDoS, phishing, SQL Injection, XSS, and malicious bots can directly affect websites, applications, data, and business operations if not properly controlled.
These were also among the topics VNETWORK covered in the Network Security and Information Safety workshop for FPT Aptech and FPT Jetking students. Through real world scenarios, students learned how attacks can occur across Web, App, API, and Email channels, while also identifying common risks in system operations.
According to VNETWORK’s 2026 Vietnam Cyberattack Report, the system recorded 2,364,118 cyberattack events. Alongside the growth of AI, many attack techniques are increasingly becoming automated, creating new challenges for system protection efforts.
From there, the workshop went beyond identifying individual attack types to broaden students’ perspective on how businesses build information security capabilities. Layers of protection, monitoring, detection, alerting, and response need to be deployed in sync to minimize risk during system operations.
For technology students, this was an opportunity to connect what they had learned in the classroom with situations happening in the real world. Rather than approaching information security purely as a concept, students gained additional insight into how businesses frame problems, assess risk, and choose protection measures for their systems.
If the workshop provided an overview of information security, the hands on session was where students put that knowledge into practice. As part of the program, students took part in a challenge to integrate WAF Free, a free Web/App security solution developed by VNETWORK that helps businesses proactively equip themselves with an internationally standard security shield and meet strict information security regulations.
Rather than simply learning what a WAF does, students carried out the configuration steps themselves, brought a website under the protection system, and checked the results after deployment. VNETWORK’s technical team supported the hands on session, helping resolve issues as they came up and guiding students through completing the challenge.
Through hands on practice, concepts such as WAF, Web/App protection, and security layers for websites became more intuitive. Students could observe the results after each step, take the initiative in solving problems, and gain a clearer understanding of how a security solution is deployed in a real system.
This experience also highlighted the role of hands on practice in learning technology. By working directly with a security solution, students could better understand the connection between specialized knowledge, technology tools, and real operational requirements.
